Employee – Frequently Asked Questions

Is my uniform and PPE provided?
Yes. We provide the required personal protective equipment for site work, including standard PPE and safety gear that meets client and regulatory requirements.
It is the employee’s responsibility to supply their own CSA approved safety boots. We also expect you to arrive on site with appropriate clothing for the season and work conditions.

What kind of work will I be doing as an Advanced First Aider?
Most of our work is industrial and remote medical standby. You will be working as the lone medic on site, providing first aid and basic medical support for industry projects or special events.

Typical duties include:
-
Being on standby for the duration of the shift
-
Assessing and treating minor injuries and illnesses within your scope
-
Stabilizing and coordinating higher-level care or transport when needed
-
Completing documentation and communicating with supervisors or clients

What length of commitment do you need?
We do not require a minimum number of days to be considered for our roster.
However, priority is given to applicants who can:
-
Work an entire project from start to finish, or
-
Commit to a full 2 week on / 2 week off rotation when required

The more availability and flexibility you have, the easier it is to place you on projects.

Is this full time, part time, or casual work?
This is casual, as needed work.
You will be added to our medic roster, and shifts are offered as projects come available. Some projects are short term, and others may run for several weeks or months, depending on client needs.

How are shifts assigned?
Shifts are filled on a first qualified / first available basis.
As projects come in, we call through our roster. The first person who is both qualified and available and says “yes” to the assignment will be scheduled for that job.

Because of this, keeping your availability up to date and answering calls or messages promptly will increase your chances of being placed.

How does travel to site work?
Staff are required to travel to one of our bases, currently:
-
Sherwood Park
-
Clairmont

From there, you will be supplied with a company work vehicle to travel to and from the project location. You are not expected to use your personal vehicle for on-site medical standby work.

What kind of vehicles will I be using?
All of our fleet vehicles are new 4x4 capable units, which may include:
-
Mobile Treatment Centre (MTC) units
-
4x4 Ambulances

The specific unit you use will depend on client needs and project requirements.

What are the licensing and certification requirements?
It is your responsibility to hold and maintain the licensing and certifications that match the level you are hired for.
This includes, at minimum:
-
Current Advanced First Aid Certificate
-
Current CPR certification
-
Common Safety Orientation (CSO)
-
H2S Alive

If any required licensing or certification expires, this may be considered grounds for removal from the roster or dismissal, as you will no longer be eligible to work on client sites.

There may also be additional client-specific orientations or training required before you can attend certain projects.

How often am I paid, and will this change?
Right now, we are paid on a bi-monthly schedule, which means pay periods are:
-
15th of the month
-
Last day of the month

We are planning to transition to a bi-weekly pay period in 2026. When this change occurs, it will be communicated to all staff ahead of time, along with details about cut-off dates and pay cycles.

What type of employment am I considered?
You are hired as a casual employee and added to our roster.
You are not guaranteed a set number of shifts per month. Work volume will depend on:
-
Client demand
-
Project timing
-
Your availability and qualifications

What should I expect on site and what are the job conditions like?
Most of our work sites are remote industrial locations. You should expect:
-
Working as a lone medic, with support available by phone or radio
-
Providing medical standby for industry activities or special events
-
12 hour shifts as the most common schedule
-
Exposure to varying weather conditions and outdoor environments
-
Working around heavy equipment, vehicles, and industrial operations
-
Depending on project location, you may stay in a hotel or other accommodations arranged for the job
You must be comfortable working independently, staying alert for long periods, and remaining calm and professional if an incident occurs.

Do I need experience driving 4x4 vehicles?
4x4 experience is not mandatory, but it is considered a bonus qualification.
Since all of our fleet vehicles are 4x4 capable MTCs or ambulances, being comfortable operating larger vehicles in remote or industrial environments is an asset, and may make you more competitive for certain projects.

Who is responsible for keeping my tickets and certifications up to date?
You are.
While we may remind staff of upcoming expiries when possible, it is ultimately the employee’s responsibility to:
-
Track expiry dates for first aid, CPR, CSO, H2S, and any other required tickets
-
Register for and complete recertification in advance
-
Provide updated documentation when requested

Expired tickets may prevent you from working on site and can be grounds for removal from the roster.

Can I still apply if I do not have industrial experience yet?
Yes.
Candidates without industrial or remote experience may still apply, provided they:
-
Hold the required certifications, and
-
Can demonstrate reliability, strong communication, and the ability to work independently

However, experience in remote or industrial settings will be considered an asset and may be preferred for certain projects.

What kind of person succeeds in this role?
Our best employees tend to be:
-
Calm and clear headed in stressful situations
-
Comfortable working alone in remote settings
-
Organized and diligent with documentation
-
Respectful of chain of command and client rules
-
Trustworthy, honest, and proactive in communicating issues
-
Self motivated to learn the ins and outs of the industries we support
If that sounds like you, you will likely fit well on our roster.
